Located at the narrowing of the upper Wairau Valley with lovely north-facing aspects. The coolness of the area combined with the airflow created by the river allows a longer, slower ripening season. The combination of the river stone and clay soils deliver mineral acidity and tannins with tension.

The vintage behind this wine

The settled weather in Malborough made for ideal flowering and growing conditions, while the warm summer ripened fruit beautifully. These excellent conditions continued throughout harvest, and at the time of picking, the fruit was in optimal condition - ripe, healthy and heaving with berry flavours.

Marlborough

Marlborough is considered the home of Mud House wines. The brand was formed around vineyards in the region. The Marlborough wine region is by far New Zealand's largest, accounting for three-quarters of the country's wine production. Known for producing exceptional Sauvignon Blanc.

It began as an adventure.

Our founders were a courageous couple who embarked on a sailing tour of the world. On one of the earliest stops, they found New Zealand. They quickly fell in love and decided to end the tour of the world in favour of building a mud house in New Zealand and planting a vineyard.  After preparing the land and planting vines, they used the local earth to build their home. That home became our brand. Over twenty years on, with a renewed sense of energy, we remain as in touch with the land as our name suggests.
