OUR WINES
Mud House Swan Waipara Chardonnay 2009
Hand harvested on the 31st March the fruit was gently whole bunch pressed and settled overnight. The barrel fermentation commenced in a mix of new and used French oak barrels and larger format puncheons. The wine remained in barrel after fermentation for 10 months and was lees stirred thoughtfully for about one month. Partial natural malolactic fermentation followed. The wine was then blended and fined using natural methods before bottling.

Soft balanced aromas of orange blossom, stone fruit and biscuity oak.
PALATE
This elegant, highly textured wine offers flavours of nectarine, lemon rind and nutty oak. A thread of minerality weaves its way through the palate holding the wine's beautiful focus.

The fruit was sourced from 2 blocks off our Glasnevin Vineyard, situated directly behind the Mud House Winery and Café in Waipara. Situated in the heart of the famous Glasnevin gravels the vineyard’s free draining gravely loam soils are well known for producing wines of structure and fi nesse.
VINTAGE CONDITIONS
The season started with some frosts that didn't affect any of our fruit then a freak hail storm that gave us a light tickle up but nothing to impact on the final crop as thinning had not been done at that point. The summer was glorious with very hot temperatures during the day and fresh cool evenings. The entire crop was thinned to targeted tonnages resulting in even ripening and great flavour accumulation. The harvest seemed like it was never going to end with an early start and a late finish. A ripper of a year!

MATURATION
Matured for 10 months in French oak. A mix of traditional 225L barrels and larger format 500L barrels were used.
