comments
Harvest commenced 10th April in our Bendigo vineyard. After arriving to the winery the grapes were gently destemmed allowing whole berries to remain intact. After a five day cold soak, each parcel was fermented separately, with a combination of wild and cultured yeast. Each batch was hand plunged to extract the vibrant colour, flavour and delicate tannin structure. Each parcel was then pressed separately to a mix of new and used French oak barrels or remained in tank. In the spring after completing Malolactic fermentation each parcel and tank was tasted and blended.

vineyard region
Free draining loam soils over schist gravel and huge diurnal temperatures make the Mud House Central Otago Vineyard in Bendigo the perfect spot to grow Pinot Noir.
vintage conditions
After repetitive frosts at the start of the season we mitigated our way out of the danger zone with only a small portion of the vineyard being affected. The growing season progressed well with excellent uniform growth, great flowering and resulting fruit set. Very careful fruit thinning saw a targeted and balanced crop develop fantastic flavour and intensity. The ripening period was long and resulted in excellent flavour concentration. Some late cooler weather saw the frost protection get a work out late in the season. All the fruit was picked at the very peak of its physiological ripeness. Certainly a cliff hanger!
