Central Otago Vintage Reports

Central Otago 2009

  • Start – 11 April 09 Finish 22 April 09 After repetitive frosts at the start of the season we managed to mitigate our way out of the danger zone with only a small portion of the vineyard being affected. The growing season progressed well with excellent uniform growth throughout the vineyard and great flowering and resulting fruit set. Very careful attention to detail with fruit thinning saw a targeted and balanced crop develop fantastic flavour and intensity. The ripening period was long and resulted in excellent flavour concentration. Some late cooler weather saw the frost protection get a work out late in the season. All the fruit was picked at the very peak of its physiological ripeness in the nick of time! Certainly a cliff hanger!
