Hawke’s Bay Merlot
04 August 2009- Timaru Herald - Deborah Walton & Peter Morice
Aroma: Sweet vanilla plums, slightly smoke and earthy. Some blackcurrant and violet notes shine through - quite an interesting aroma,
Taste: A light-bodied, fruity wines with plenty of vanilla and plum flavour laced with oak. The drying tannins kick in mid-palate and the finish is fruity and leafy, while aftertaste is bitter chocolate and plums.
Price: Pretty good value at $16.99.

Soft and ripe fruit aromas give way to juicy fruit flavours and good richness through the palate. The tannins are as yet big and firm but these will ease in time. Should improve over time.
