This is the time of the year at The Woolshed Vineyard in Marlborough when we apply fertilisers, because it’s always important to replace the nutrients in the soil that were taken out during harvest.
These photos are of the ‘lime spreading’. Lime, a naturally occurring non harmful organic component, reduces acidity in the soil and increases alkalinity, and provides a good source of calcium for the vines.
Getting the lime into the soil now in the vineyard allows time for it to penetrate deep into the soil, all ready for the vines in the spring time.
And it’s good to get these trucks up the hills before it gets too wet during the winter months.
